About us
Four Seasons Allotments, located in Heysham, is one of the newest allotment sites in the Lancaster District, established in 2016. The site offers 28 full and half plots, alongside 30 community raised beds.
Over the last two years, when members of the current committee took over the running of the site, and since then we’ve secured almost £17,000 in funding . This funding has helped us make major improvements, including installing French drains to tackle drainage issues. These feed into a natural pond, which we’ve planted with a variety of pollinator-friendly species.
We’ve also cleared tonnes of rubbish — over 500 car tyres alone — built and filled the community raised beds, installed security cameras, and planted a mini fruit orchard, with plans for a larger orchard featuring mainly heritage varieties.
Our latest projects include creating a fully accessible community space for gatherings. Recently we erected a donated 16 x 9 ft shed, and our next step is to put up a 14 ft-wide polytunnel (also donated). This will give us undercover growing space for the community beds and allow us to raise young plants on site to sell.
Our ambition is huge. We aim to become a fully accessible site where everyone can learn to grow their own food. Plans include launching a composting project, expanding the orchards, and using the woodland behind the site for nature recovery initiatives. The work is far from done, but the future is exciting.
