Allotment Site Cleared of 547 Abandoned Tyres

It’s taken an incredible amount of work, patience, and persistence, but we can finally say that the mountain of dumped tyres on our site has gone!

For years, that unsightly pile has been a constant reminder of the challenges we’ve faced in restoring and improving our allotment site. In total, there were 543 car tyres and 4 huge tractor tyres stacked and scattered in one corner. This made it impossible for us to use or let out the plot they occupied. Every time someone visited, it was one of the first things they noticed. It was a real eyesore. It didn’t reflect the progress being made elsewhere on the site.

This week, all that changed.

A huge thank you goes to the man from AC Tyres. He worked tirelessly in the warm 20°C sunshine. He got every last tyre loaded up and taken away. The task was challenging and involved hours of heavy lifting. He also sorted and stacked everything. However, he tackled it with determination and good humour throughout. Watching the wagon pull away for the last time was amazing. It was a special moment for everyone involved in the site’s transformation.

Removing the tyres marks another big step in our ongoing effort to bring the allotments back to life. That area can now finally be cleared, levelled, and prepared for use. It’s one more space we can return to the community. It’s another plot that can be cultivated. This is another small victory for everyone who’s worked so hard to make the site what it is today.

Slowly but surely, we’re turning the site around. Every improvement, large or small, helps us move a step closer to our goal. We aim to create a safe, productive, and welcoming space for all our plot holders and visitors.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped, supported, or simply cheered us on. Your encouragement truly makes a difference.

Here’s to many more positive changes ahead!
