Building Our New Raised Beds – A True Team Effort!

Last night was all about rolling up our sleeves. We got to work on creating the new raised beds for our community growing area. With so many people turning up for our plot letting day, we know demand for growing space is higher than ever, and thanks to some amazing teamwork, we’ve made incredible progress!

Our plan was to make a start. We hoped to get around five sets of raised beds built out of the twenty we need in total. But things didn’t quite go to plan… in the best possible way! Two of our new plot-holders, Marcin and Dorota, turned up ready to help, and they were absolute powerhouses. Alongside Kat, one of our existing plot-holders, the team worked like a well-oiled machine. We could hardly keep up. We were treating the wood with Eco Wood Treatment to keep everything weatherproof and long-lasting.

By the end of the evening, all 20 sets of raised beds were complete and ready to assemble and fill. That’s an incredible achievement in just one session! Next, we’ll fill them with a nutritious blend of mushroom compost and farmyard mix from Logs Direct Ltd. It’s the perfect start for our next generation of crops and community growers.

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable support of our funders. A huge thank you to FoodFutures North Lancashire, Pots of Possibility, and the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund. Their funding has helped us create more opportunities for people. It allows them to grow their own food, connect with others, and learn new skills.

We’re so grateful to everyone who helped out and made the evening such a success. The sense of teamwork and enthusiasm was incredible. Moments like these remind us what a strong and vibrant community we’re building together.

We can’t wait to see the raised beds assembled, filled, and bursting with life in the weeks to come!
