New Community Raised Beds: A Milestone Achieved

The transformation continues! This week marked the next big stage in our community growing area project — and what a milestone it was. We’ve built all 20 of our new raised beds with help from our amazing allotment plot-holders. Including both old and new members. We have also filled them!

After the last session, where we cut and treated all the timber, it was time to position and assemble the beds. Next, they needed to be filled with rich compost. Thanks to a great turnout of volunteers, the work flew by. Everyone got stuck in, shovelling, barrowing, levelling, and laughing along the way. It was one of those brilliant community moments where everyone pulled together and made something big happen.

Each bed is now filled with a healthy mix of mushroom compost and farmyard manure, ready for planting. Soon they’ll be full of fresh produce, herbs, and flowers.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to help. Whether you’ve been with us for years or are new to the allotments, your hard work has truly made a difference. It’s amazing what can be achieved when we all pitch in!

These new community beds will create so many opportunities for people to get involved. They can learn and share. They’re a big step towards making the site more inclusive, productive, and welcoming for everyone.

And, of course, this project wouldn’t have been possible without support from our funders — FoodFutures North Lancashire, Pots of Possibility, and the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund. Their generosity has helped us turn an idea into something truly special.

Here’s to many happy growing seasons ahead — and to seeing those 20 new beds bursting with life very soon!
