Successful Plot Holders’ Day: Donations To Transform Our Allotment Site

On 13th July, we held another Plot Holders’ Day. However, this time it wasn’t the usual kind of session on site. Instead, we were mainly out on the road with a pick-up and a couple of borrowed ambulances. Yes, really. We were collecting two fantastic donations. These are going to make a big difference to our allotments!

One team went to Morecambe. They dismantled and collected a 16 x 9 foot log cabin–style shed. The other team made the trip up to Kendal. They picked up a 14-foot-wide polytunnel. Both were kindly donated. We’re hugely grateful to the people who offered them. They’re brilliant additions that will help us keep developing the site for the future.

It was definitely a day of logistics and teamwork. Between navigating, lifting, and figuring out how to fit everything in, both teams really delivered. The ambulances-turned-transporters caused a few double takes along the way, but they did the job perfectly!

Meanwhile, the team left on site were busy strimming, chopping back and tidying the community areas. At this time of year, it’s a never ending task!

By the end of the day, both donations were safely back on site. They are ready for the next stage, rebuilding and putting them to good use. These will form part of our long-term plans to create more opportunities for growing, learning, and community activity.

A massive thank you to everyone who took part and to both donors for their generosity. It’s great to see the achievements when people chip in, hopefully having some fun along the way!
